Duties
The appointee will be required to:
(a) manage the implementation and administration of the University’s Innovation Fund, including coordinating application and evaluation processes, monitoring project progress and fund utilisation, and ensuring compliance with relevant policies and guidelines;
(b) identify, evaluate and support high-potential innovation and entrepreneurship projects for funding, and work closely with internal and external stakeholders to accelerate their development, commercialisation and investment readiness;
(c) plan and manage activities for applications and commercialisation of PolyU’s intellectual properties (IPs) to advance the University’s knowledge transfer impact to the society and industry;
(d) drive the development and implementation of IP commercialisation platform and implement strategies to foster and maximise the exploitation of PolyU’s IPs;
(e) work closely with the academic staff and researchers to identify the groundbreaking innovations with significant application value, assess industry demands, and realise commercialisation opportunities through appropriate forms of knowledge transfer partnership with local and regional industries and other stakeholders;
(f) deliver impact cases for the University through effective forms of IP commercialisation and knowledge transfer; and
(g) perform any other duties as assigned by the Interim Director of Knowledge Transfer and Entrepreneurship or his/her delegates.
The appointee may also manage the University’s subsidiary for knowledge transfer projects and activities.
Qualifications
Applicants should have:
(a) a recognised degree in Engineering, Biomedical Sciences, Business, Finance, Innovation Management, or a discipline related to STEM, preferably with a master's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Innovation Management or an equivalent qualification, and with formal training or relevant experience in intellectual property management, technology transfer, innovation management and/or venture investment;
(b) at least eight years of solid management experience, with exceptional business acumen in formulating and execution of strategies for knowledge and technology transfer, innovation management, venture development, commercialisation, investment management and/or business development, preferably gained in higher education, translational R&D, innovation and technology, venture capital, startup ecosystem or related sectors;
(c) demonstrated experience in evaluating innovation and technology projects, managing funding programmes or investment portfolios, conducting due diligence, performance monitoring and impact assessment, and supporting the translation of research outcomes into commercial and societal impact;
(d) excellent interpersonal, communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build effective partnerships and work collaboratively with researchers, entrepreneurs, industry partners, investors, funding agencies and senior executives; and
(e) high proficiency in both written and spoken English and Chinese, with fluency in Putonghua being an advantage.
Shortlisted candidates will be invited to sit for a written test.
Conditions of Service
A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered. Initial appointment will be on a fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract. Re-engagement thereafter is subject to mutual agreement.
