Project Associate (Part-time) / Project Assistant (Full-time/Half-time/Part-time) (several posts)

[Appointment period: each for six to twelve months]

Duties

The appointees will assist the project leader in the research project - “Developing bilingual Cantonese-English language intervention curriculum for student speech therapists”.  They will be required to:

(a)    assist in scheduling data collection sessions, and collecting, transcribing and scoring dependent measures across baseline, intervention and maintenance conditions in both Cantonese and English;

(b)    assist in curriculum material development (e.g., lesson plans, scoring manuals and online scoring practice modules);

(c)    train and co-supervise student assistants in data collection and management tasks;

(d)    assist in piloting AI-assisted methods for automated scoring and generation of visual figures and tables to document intervention evaluation metrics; and

(e)    perform any other duties as assigned by the project leader or his/her delegates.

Qualifications

Applicants for the Project Associate post should be a dedicated graduate holding a Master’s degree or an equivalent qualification in Linguistics, Speech Therapy, Psychology or a related discipline (preferably with a solid background in language acquisition and psycholinguistics), or a good honours degree with three or more years of research/relevant work experience. 

Applicants for the Project Assistant post should be a dedicated graduate holding an honours degree or an equivalent qualification in the above-mentioned disciplines, preferably a master’s degree with a solid background in language acquisition and psycholinguistics.

Applicants should also:

(a)    be a proficient speaker of Cantonese and English;

(b)    preferably have experience in administering experimental studies to lower primary school-aged children; and

(c)    ideally desire to pursue further studies (e.g., PhD or MA/Master of Speech Therapy) and would like to accrue related research experience prior to further studies. (PhD opportunity is available in the Department under the supervision of the project leader and his/her local and overseas collaborators from internationally leading research universities/institutes/centres.)

Conditions of Service

For full-time appointments, a highly competitive remuneration package will be offered.

For part-time appointments, the remuneration rates are HK$181 per hour for the post of Project Associate, and HK$125 per hour for the post of Project Assistant.
