[Appointment period: twelve months from October 2026 to September 2027]

Duties

The appointee will assist the project leader in the project – “Corpus-based oral English assessment: Evaluating PolyU students’ spoken English proficiency and communication competency and implications for AI-Driven pedagogy”.  This project, initiated by the Department of English and Communication in collaboration with the Institute for Higher Education Research and Development, has strategic importance to the broader language education reform that PolyU has recently embarked upon and aligns with the institutional goals of the PolyU Education 4.0.  He/She will be required to:  

(a)    conduct independent and collaborative research; 

(b)    collect extensive spoken corpora and related participant demographic information; 

(c)    assist in the development of assessment instruments and protocols, and utilise AI tools for language analysis and materials production;

(d)    prepare and publish high-quality research articles with staff members of the University; and 

(e)    perform any other duties as assigned by the project leader or his/her delegate(s).

Qualifications

Applicants should have:

(a)    a PhD degree in Applied Linguistics, Education, or a related discipline or an equivalent qualification, and must have no more than five years of post-qualification experience at the time of application;

(b)    a proven track record of empirical research;

(c)    the ability to work independently and as part of a team;

(d)    excellent communication skills; and

(e)    strong organisational and time management skills.
