The Research Centre for Digital Transformation of Tourism (RCdTT) (www.polyu.edu.hk/rcdtt) and School of Hotel and Tourism Management (SHTM) (www.polyu.edu.hk/htm) at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University seek qualified candidate at the rank of Research Assistant Professor to join a dynamic and forward-looking team of researchers.
RCdTT is a newly established research centre under the PolyU Academy for Interdisciplinary Research (PAIR) with a focus on generating high impact applied research with a view to transforming the tourism industry in the digital age. The SHTM sets itself apart from other hospitality and tourism educational institutions by consistently earning a high standing in the upper echelons of international rankings. Placed No. 1 in the world in the “Hospitality and Tourism Management” category in ShanghaiRanking’s Global Ranking of Academic Subjects 2025 for the ninth consecutive year, ranked No. 1 globally in the “Commerce, Management, Tourism and Services” category in the University Ranking by Academic Performance in 2024/2025 for eight years in a row, rated No. 1 in the world in the “Hospitality, Leisure, Sport & Tourism” subject area by the CWUR Rankings by Subject 2017, and ranked No. 2 globally among comprehensive universities in the “Hospitality and Leisure Management” subject area in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026, the SHTM is a symbol of excellence in the field, exemplifying its motto of Leading Hospitality and Tourism. Duties
The appointee will be required to:
(a) conduct research as the main duty and actively pursue external research grants as Principal Investigator or Co-Investigator;
(b) provide minimum teaching (usually one course per year) at undergraduate or postgraduate level;
(c) contribute to RCdTT service; and
(d) perform any other duties as assigned by the Director of RCdTT or his delegates.
Qualifications
Applicants should have:
(a) a minimum of PhD or an equivalent doctoral degree in Data Science, Management Science, Economics, Statistics or Computing with a particular focus on AI and its applications to tourism;
(b) a strong track record or potential for undertaking high quality research for publications in top rated tourism and main stream journals and research grant writing;
(c) a demonstration of potential for excellent teaching; and
(d) excellent English communication and writing skills.
Preference will be given to candidates with two or more years of postdoctoral research experience at the time of appointment.
Conditions of Service
A highly competitive package including a medical benefits plan and a gratuity payable upon completion of the term which is normally for two to three years initially, with possibility of extension.
In addition to a highly competitive compensation package, a start-up research fund can be provided to the qualified appointees. Appointees are paid on a monthly basis for 12 months annually.
