Duties

The appointee will be required to:

(a)    assist in teaching tutorials and practicums of Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Physiology and other subjects of Life Sciences for undergraduates and postgraduates;

(b)    provide technical support in the operation of major equipment, including but not limited to High Content Screening System, Peptide synthesizer, FPLC, qPCR, Light Scattering Detector, Fluorescence Spectrometer, Cryostat, Tissue Processor, Freeze dryer, etc.;

(c)    train students and research personnel to operate selected major instruments;

(d)    supervise and guide final-year project students, ensuring their research adheres to the University’s standards and safety regulations;

(e)    write, review and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for designated laboratory equipment, ensuring all documentation reflects current best practices and safety protocols;

(f)     provide support in marketing and promotional activities of the Department and the University; and

(g)    perform any other duties as assigned by the Head of Department or his/her delegates.

Qualifications

Applicants should:

(a)    have a doctoral degree in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology or a related discipline;

(b)    have at least five years' relevant experience in operation of the afore-mentioned instruments;

(c)    be highly proficient in written and spoken English;

(d)    have demonstrated promise of a high level of creativity in research and teaching in some subdivisions of his/her field; and

(e)    be able to demonstrate effective classroom teaching skills.

Conditions of Service

A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered.  Initial appointment will be on a fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract.  Re-engagement thereafter is subject to mutual agreement.
