Resident Building Services Inspector

Duties
The appointee will be required to:
(a) assist in the supervision of on-site building services works, as well as review site working programmes safety matters, and inspect the quality of workmanship;
(b) monitor the labour resources, progress of works, materials and equipment used on-site;
(c) ensure the correct materials and equipment are delivered to site by contractors and that only those approved materials and equipment are installed;
(d) inspect and witness the testing and commissioning of building services installations;
(e) monitor the progress of building services outstanding works and defect rectification works;
(f) check site measurements of building services works, payments claimed by contractors, building services operation and maintenance manuals, as well as as-fitted drawings submitted by various contractors;
(g) conduct site survey of existing building services installations during the construction stage, including submission of proposals for addition, alteration or repair works;
(h) liaise with various departments of the University for the implementation of user requirements and coordinate with users, consultants, contractors, utility companies and government departments on site matters;
(i) solve minor disputes/conflicts between various contractors, utility companies, stakeholders in the University and government departments on site;
(j) maintain site records, update site record books and submit monthly reports as necessary;
(k) perform duties during weekdays and alternate Saturdays regularly, and work outside office hours during weekdays, Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays when required; and
(l) perform any other duties as assigned by the Director of the Office or her delegates.
Qualifications
Applicants should have:
(a) a recognised degree in Building Services Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline with at least five years of solid post-qualification experience and supervisory experience, or a Higher Diploma in a related discipline plus at least eight years of solid post-qualification experience and supervisory experience;
(b) a good command of both written and spoken English and Chinese; and
(c) good interpersonal and presentation skills.
Preference will be given to those with experience in supervising capital works.
Conditions of Service
A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered. Appointment will be on a two-year fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract.
