Assistant Technical Officer

Duties
The appointee will be required to:
(a) prepare all necessary items for and assist with laboratory classes of Microbiology, Microbial Biotechnology, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Physiology and related subjects;
(b) support the day-to-day operation of teaching/research/specialised laboratories;
(c) order chemicals, consumables and equipment required for teaching and research;
(d) check and update the stock and inventory, and be responsible for the maintenance of various equipment;
(e) be in charge of the maintenance of some large state-of-the-art equipment;
(f) assist with student projects, research and consultancy activities, field work, promotional activities and other related activities;
(g) assist in implementing the University’s Health and Safety policies; and
(h) perform any other duties as assigned by the Head of Department or his/her delegates.
Qualifications
Applicants should have:
(a) a recognised degree in Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or a related discipline; a postgraduate degree is preferred;
(b) at least three years' relevant post-qualification experience;
(c) a good command of both written and spoken English and Chinese, with fluency in Putonghua being an advantage;
(d) good computer literacy;
(e) strong self-motivation, problem solving and analytical skills; and
(f) good interpersonal and communication skills.
Conditions of Service
A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered. Initial appointment will be on a fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract. Re-engagement thereafter is subject to mutual agreement.
