Research Assistant

[Appointment period: three to six months]

Duties

The appointee will assist the project leader in the research project – “The role of AI in courtroom evidence evaluation: showcasing the impact in forensic voice comparison in Hong Kong”.  He/She will be required to:

(a)    process and segment speech data; 

(b)    conduct various forms of data analysis for the project; and

(c)    perform any other duties as assigned by the project leader or his/her delegate(s).

Qualifications

Applicants should:

(a)    have a bachelor’s degree or a master’s degree in Linguistics (phonetics), or an equivalent qualification;

(b)    have experience working with speech data using Praat;

(c)    possess good knowledge of phonetics and speech science;

(d)    be familiar with Hong Kong Cantonese and demonstrate a high level of proficiency in English; and

(e)    have experience with R/Python scripting.

Applicants with relevant experience in forensic phonetics will be an advantage. Those who are interested in pursuing further PhD research in forensic or experimental phonetics are especially encouraged to apply.
