Assistant Project Director (Construction Management)

Duties 

The appointee will be required to:

(a) be responsible for the planning, design and construction management of the University’s entities (including the University’s campus buildings in Hong Kong and the Chinese Mainland) in support of its strategic goals;

(b) manage construction sites for new construction as well as alteration and additional works (A&A), coordinating activities and ensuring that all works are align with project goals and objectives;

(c) manage contractors and direct construction projects from commencement to completion;

(d) lead and supervise project manager(s), professional/technical staff and consultants to ensure that the project(s) is/are delivered and completed in line with the University’s strategic development plans and meet the needs of both internal and external stakeholders;

(e) review and comment on contractors’ construction programme, and method statements/proposals, focusing on constructability and safety aspects; 

(f) supervise and monitor the performance of the resident site team, consultants and contractors;

(g) administer projects by attending project/site meetings, conducting regular site inspections to ensure compliance with quality assurance, project specifications requirements, as well as safety standards for capital works; A&A and alterations, additions and improvements (AA&I) works; 

(h) prepare reports on site progress, quality, environmental and safety aspects, maintain daily site records and archive project site documentation for projects in Hong Kong and the Chinese Mainland;

(i) manage quality and statutory compliance in construction sites;  

(j) oversee the site team to maintain proper site documentation and inspection records;

(k) establish and manage the project’s workmanship and quality control/assurance system to meet University requirements;

(l) establish and maintain University standards relating to building construction, collaborate with the Campus Facilities and Sustainability Office and the Health and Safety Office as necessary; and

(m) perform any other duties as assigned by the Director of the Office or her delegates.

Qualifications 

Applicants should:

(a) have a recognised degree or above in Architecture, Building, Civil/Structural Engineering or a construction-related discipline plus at least at least twelve years of solid construction management and site experiences;

(b) be a qualified professional in related disciplines;

(c) have a good command of both written and spoken English and Chinese, with proficiency in Putonghua;

(d) have strong management, communication and problem-solving skills; and 

(e) be proactive and result-oriented, and must be able to formulate/implement project plans independently and work under pressure. 

Conditions of Service

A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered.  Initial appointment will be on a fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract.  Re-engagement thereafter is subject to mutual agreement.
