Assistant Technical Officer

Duties 

The appointee will be required to:

(a)    support academic staff in conducting laboratory classes, including those involving electronic signal processing and computer programming;

(b)    provide technical support for student projects, particularly in areas related to electronics, signal processing, microcontrollers, and programming;

(c)    assist in the development, installation, and training of equipment and instruments for laboratory use as directed by the Unit;

(d)    get familiar with the operation of electronic and biomedical equipment installed in the laboratory and provide instructions to users for the proper use of equipment under the supervision of the laboratory-in-charge;

(e)    provide training to new users of the equipment to ensure that they acquire the necessary knowledge for operating the equipment, and provide solutions to the users in case of malfunction;

(f)     report to the laboratory-in-charge immediately in case of equipment damage and assist to conduct investigation; 

(g)    monitor whether equipment is accessible to users and fairly shared among all staff and students of the Unit;

(h)    administer and ensure the transparency of equipment booking system for all potential users;

(i)     maintain laboratory facilities and the working environment in good condition and keep an updated inventory record of the facilities;

(j)     assist in research, consultancy activities, and projects for staff and students as directed;

(k)    assist in any activities that contribute to the smooth running of the Unit as assigned by the immediate supervisor; and

(l)     perform any other duties as assigned by the Head of Unit or his delegates.

Qualifications 

Applicants should have: 

(a)    a recognised degree in Biomedical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering or a related discipline;

(b)    hands-on experience in electronic circuit design, troubleshooting, and repair, with experience in biomedical applications being an advantage;

(c)    experience in signal acquisition and processing, with proficiency in relevant programming languages (e.g., MATLAB, Python, LabVIEW, C/C++) being an advantage;

(d)    a good command of both spoken and written English and Chinese, with fluency in Putonghua being an advantage; and

(e)    strong analytical skills as well as good interpersonal and communication skills.

Preference will be given to those with experience in supporting student projects in electronics and programming related areas.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to sit for a hands-on test.

Conditions of Service

A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered.  Initial appointment will be on a fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract.  Re-engagement thereafter is subject to mutual agreement.
