Duties 

The appointees will assist the project leader in the research project - “Developing an AI-empowered and student-centered institutional self-awareness and well-being support system: From assessment to intervention through parameter-efficient fine-tuning of foundation models”.  The primary role is to take responsibility for full-stack integration and database management, bridging the frontend interface and backend AI services to ensure a seamless, robust, and scalable system.  He/She will be required to:

(a)    design, implement, and maintain the system database (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, or NoSQL solutions) to store user profiles, assessment data, intervention records, and model interaction logs;

(b)    develop and maintain data APIs to enable efficient communication between the frontend (web/mobile application) and backend AI models (LLM inference, multimodal processing, etc.);

(c)    integrate frontend components with backend services, ensure data consistency, security, and real-time performance; and

(d)    collaborate closely with AI engineers (for model integration) and frontend developers (for UI/UX data flow), as well as psychology researchers.

Qualifications

Applicants should:

(a)    have an honours degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related discipline, or an equivalent qualification; 

(b)    have proven experience in full-stack or backend development, with strong proficiency in at least one backend language (e.g., Python, Node.js, Java) and familiarity with frontend technologies (e.g., React, Vue.js) to facilitate integration;

(c)    possess solid knowledge of databases management systems (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB) and experience in designing schemes, writing optimised queries, and ensuring data integrity;

(d)    have hands-on experience with version control (Git) and basic deployment workflows (Docker, cloud services such as AWS, Azure, or GCP is a plus);

(e)    demonstrate strong problem-solving abilities in debugging cross-system issues (frontend-backend-databases) and performance tuning; and

(f)    have good communication skills in English and Putonghua, with the ability to translate requirements from both technical and non-technical team members into practical database and integration solutions.

Preference will be given to those with previous experience in building data-driven applications for mental health, education, or AI-assisted systems.

Conditions of Service

For full-time appointment, a highly competitive remuneration package will be offered.  

For part-time appointment, the remuneration rate is HK$125 per hour.
