The Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME) is one of the five academic departments in the Faculty of Engineering, and it offers a full spectrum of Biomedical Engineering programmes, from BSc, MSc to PhD.  It is the first group to offer Biomedical Engineering related undergraduate programme in Hong Kong, and has made great achievements in Biomedical Engineering education, innovative research, and technology transfer.  Currently BME has four thematic research areas, including Biomedical Imaging, Instrumentation, Sensing and AI, Molecular, Cellular and Tissue Engineering, Sports and Neuromusculoskeletal Engineering, Prosthetics, Orthotics, Smart Ageing and Rehabilitation Engineering.  It aims to conduct cutting-edge researches in these areas and nurture future leaders in prosthetics and orthotics, clinical engineering, medical instrumentation and sensors, and biological engineering by imparting interdisciplinary knowledge, innovative ideas, critical thinking and practical skills. 

For this post, we would specifically invite a talent to join our interdisciplinary research and development group in medical imaging for healthy and smart ageing, in collaboration with the Research Institute for Smart Ageing (RISA). The appointee will work together with RISA members to conduct research and development works related to healthy and smart ageing using medical imaging technologies. Duties

The appointee will be required to:

(a)    teach at undergraduate and postgraduate levels for subjects related to Biomedical Engineering, particularly in subjects related to medical ultrasound, biomedical imaging, clinical engineering, and knowledge transfer;

(b)    initiate innovative research projects that lead to publications in top-tier refereed journals, preferably on ultrasound imaging for healthy ageing;

(c)    actively apply for external research grants as Principal Investigator or Co-Investigator;

(d)    supervise student projects, dissertation and theses;

(e)    undertake academic and departmental administrative duties; and

(f)     perform any other duties as assigned by the Head of Unit or his delegates. 

Qualifications

Applicants should have:

(a)    a PhD or equivalent in Biomedical Engineering, Medical Imaging, Clinical Medicine, or a closely related discipline;

(b)    preferably at least two years of postdoctoral research experience at the time of appointment;

(c)    strong expertise and hands-on experience in clinical ultrasound imaging, preferably possessing recognized professional clinical certifications;

(d)    good publication records, demonstrating strong capability for world-class research in the areas of medical imaging, ultrasound for brain, medical AI, or smart ageing technologies;

(e)    strong commitment to excellence in teaching and research;

(f)     good networking ability; and

(g)    excellent communication skills and the ability to use English as the medium of instruction.

Conditions of Service

A highly competitive package including a medical benefits plan and a gratuity payable upon completion of the term which is normally for two to three years initially, with possibility of extension.
