Assistant Manager (Information Technology)

Duties 

The appointee will be assigned to work in the School of Optometry.  The position will contribute to the management of system development, implementation, enhancement; and support of clinical, academic, and research operations within the School.  He/She will be required to: 

(a)    lead a team to support the daily operations and publicity of the School through the strategic deployment of information technology (IT) systems; 

(b)    revamp and modernise the Optometry Clinic Management System and the web booking system to fulfill the evolving requirements of specialty services and clinical training development; 

(c)    develop, optimise, and integrate electronic systems within the Optometry Clinic to significantly enhance operational efficiency and improve the overall patient experience; 

(d)    assist in designing, implementing, and deploying innovative IT systems to enhance teaching and learning outcomes;

(e)    collaborate closely with the research team to provide comprehensive, end-to-end IT infrastructure and technical support for research projects;

(f)     perform end-to-end project management, including budget administration, resource allocation, and schedule control, to ensure the successful delivery of system initiatives;

(g)    design and deliver IT or artificial intelligence literacy training programmes to upskill administrative, clinical, and academic staff within the School;

(h)    liaise and coordinate with external vendors as well as internal system infrastructure and network teams to ensure smooth system upgrades, migrations, maintenance, and reliable application releases and deployment; and

(i)     perform any other duties as assigned by the Head of Unit or his/her delegates.

Qualifications 

Applicants should: 

(a)    have a recognised degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology or a related discipline;

(b)    have at least five years of relevant post-qualification work experience in application development and system integration, preferably with exposure to clinical operations, medical administration or healthcare information systems;

(c)    have supervisory experience in leading and mentoring a team of IT professionals for application delivery and system support;

(d)    possess solid experience in full-stack web and application development, database management and containerised deployment frameworks;

(e)    have strong knowledge of integrating modern AI tools, automation workflows and API ecosystems, preferably with experience in a higher education or clinical training setting;

(f)     have an excellent command of both written and spoken English and Chinese, with fluency in Putonghua; and

(g)    have strong project management and excellent communication skills.

Conditions of Service

A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered.  Initial appointment will be on a fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract.  Re-engagement thereafter is subject to mutual agreement.
