Research Assistant / Project Assistant

[Appointment period: six months]

Duties

The appointee will assist the project leader in the research project - “Exploring the effectiveness of ChatGPT-generated tasks in enhancing translation teaching and learning: An exploratory empirical research”.  He/She will be required to:

(a)    design and generate ChatGPT-based tasks for translation teaching and learning, and assist in integrating these tasks into course materials;

(b)    coordinate with participating classes/centres to conduct empirical experiments, including pre-tests, post-tests, and questionnaires;

(c)    assist in collecting and analysing quantitative and qualitative data (e.g., student performance, feedback, and interview transcripts);

(d)    help with literature review on AI literacy, translation pedagogy and ChatGPT applications in education;

(e)    assist in preparing progress reports, conference papers, and journal articles; and

(f)     perform any other duties as assigned by the project leader or his/her delegates.

Qualifications

Applicants should:

(a)    have a good honours degree or an equivalent qualification;

(b)    have a good command of both written and spoken English and Chinese, with fluency in Putonghua being an advantage;

(c)    have basic knowledge of, or a strong interest in generative AI (e.g., ChatGPT) and its applications in language/translation education;

(d)    have experience or familiarity with educational research methods (e.g., experimental design, survey, and statistical analysis);

(e)    have good teamwork and interpersonal skills; and

(f)     be proficient in computer applications and basic data analysis tools (e.g., Python, R, and MAXQDA).
