Assistant Project Director (Project Management)

Duties

The appointee will be required to:

(a)    be responsible for the planning, design and project management of the University’s entities (including University’s campus buildings in Hong Kong and the Chinese Mainland) in support of its strategic goals;

(b)    prepare proposals for submission to the University Grants Committee and University for funding and applications;

(c)    prepare project briefs and specifications in line with the University’s requirements, as well as manage/monitor the progress and quality of capital works projects, alterations and additions (A&A) works projects from inception to completion, including the furnishing and fitting-out works of new buildings and existing accommodations;

(d)    manage the tendering and selection process for the appointment of consultants and contractors for capital and A&A works, as well as manage/monitor the performance of consultants and contractors to ensure the projects are delivered on time, within budgets and comply with the University’s quality, sustainability and safety requirements;

(e)    collaborate with other internal stakeholders, including the Campus Facilities and Sustainability Office, the Health and Safety Office, the Information Technology Services Office and user departments in the design and management of projects to uphold their quality and safety standards;

(f)     lead and supervise project manager(s), professional/technical staff and consultants to ensure project(s)-in-charge is/are in line with the University’s strategic development plans as well as the needs of both internal and external stakeholders;

(g)    provide professional advice and support to other project teams as necessary; and

(h)    perform any other duties as assigned by the Director of the Office or her delegates.

Qualifications 

Applicants should: 

(a)    have a recognised degree or above in Architecture, Building, Civil/Structural Engineering or a construction-related discipline plus at least eight years of solid project management and site experience;

(b)    be a qualified professional in building related disciplines;

(c)    have a good command of both written and spoken English and Chinese, with proficiency in Putonghua;

(d)    have strong management, communication and problem solving skills; and

(e)    be proactive and result-oriented, and must be able to formulate/implement project plans independently and work under pressure.

Conditions of Service

A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered.  Initial appointment will be on a fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract.  Re-engagement thereafter is subject to mutual agreement.
