The Language Education Institute (LEI), a new academic unit established on 1 July 2025, formulates policies, designs curricula and delivers teaching activities for the education of languages among students at PolyU, focusing mainly on the Chinese and English languages.  LEI strives to become a regional and international leader in language education, particularly in the application of the latest technologies in language learning, teaching and assessment. It drives scholarship and best practices in language education among the PolyU community. LEI comprises the Chinese Language Centre, English Language Centre and Technology-Enhanced Language Education Centre.

Duties 

The appointee will be required to:

(a)    provide administrative support for the effective operation of the Institute;

(b)    support academic offerings and related student activities, coordinate academic exercises and handle quality assurance matters;

(c)    provide secretarial support to the Director of Institute, including scheduling, correspondence, meeting arrangements, and related office administration;

(d)    maintain professional and effective communications with internal units and external organisations;

(e)    update the Institute’s website and disseminate information through appropriate media channels;

(f)     provide secretarial support to committees and meetings;

(g)    supervise junior staff; and

(h)    perform any other duties as assigned by the Director of the Institute or his/her delegates.

Qualifications 

Applicants should have: 

(a)    a recognised degree with at least five years of relevant post-qualification work experience, preferably in tertiary institutions;

(b)    strong problem-solving and leadership skills, with a proactive approach to manage multiple priorities effectively;

(c)    excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a positive and professional attitude when engaging with different stakeholders;

(d)    an excellent command of both written and spoken English and Chinese, with fluency in Putonghua and Cantonese;

(e)    good computer literacy, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Chinese word processing; and

(f)     the ability to work both independently and in a team.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to sit for a written test.

Applicants should upload a cover letter in English highlighting their suitability for the post, an updated CV, copies of certificates confirming the academic qualifications stated above, certificates of public examinations demonstrating proficiency in Chinese and English languages (e.g. IELTS, TOEFL, HKDSE, HKALE, HKCEE), and recommendation letters from previous and/or current employers.   

Condition of Service

A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered.  Initial appointment will be on a fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract.  Re-engagement thereafter is subject to mutual agreement.
