Duties
The appointee will join the Technology Transfer Assessment Unit in the Office of the Senior Vice President (Research and Innovation) and he/she will be required to:
(a) lead the Unit to provide independent and systematic reviews of all documentation related to knowledge transfer, commercialisation, knowledge transfer and entrepreneurship (KTE) and the related investment activities of the University;
(b) evaluate financial, legal and reputational risks in agreements and recommend risk mitigation measures as appropriate;
(c) verify intellectual property (IP) ownership, licensing and sub-licensing terms and conditions to protect University’s interest and ensure alignment with the University’s policies and regulations;
(d) ensure KTE related investment transactions of the University follow appropriate deal structures, and that shareholder rights and obligations are clearly defined, with suitable protection mechanisms in accordance with University’s policies and regulations;
(e) develop internal policies and guidelines to enhance the legal and compliance frameworks in the realm of KTE;
(f) provide advice to senior management and other departments, ensuring that the decisions are legally sound and align with University’s objectives for knowledge transfer, entrepreneurship, and community benefit; and
(g) perform any other duties as assigned by the Senior Vice President (Research and Innovation) or his/her delegates.
Qualifications
Applicants should:
(a) possess a recognised degree, preferably in Business, Accounting, Law or with legal relevant background, and ideally be a qualified lawyer or IP professional in Hong Kong;
(b) have substantial professional experience at managerial level, normally not less than eight years, in the in-house compliance team of higher education institutions, public organisations or reputable law firms;
(c) demonstrate proficiency in IP law, commercial law, licensing agreements, technology commercialisation, entrepreneurship and investment activities;
(d) have an excellent command of both written and spoken English and Chinese (including Cantonese and Putonghua);
(e) have strong analytical, interpersonal and problem-solving skills; and
(f) have attention to detail, with the ability to work independently and under pressure.
Conditions of Service
A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered. Initial appointment will be on a fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract. Re-engagement thereafter is subject to mutual agreement.
