Assistant Technical Officer

Duties 

The appointee will be required to:

(a)    assist Scientific Officers in preparing laboratory classes, including equipment setup, and preparation of reagents and chemicals for Chemistry experiments;

(b)    assist in student projects, workshops, University Information Day, promotional and other related activities;

(c)    provide training to laboratory users on the proper use of equipment and laboratories; 

(d)    handle the procurement of consumables, equipment and services related to teaching and research in accordance with the University’s requirements;

(e)    manage the stock and inventory for laboratory equipment, and ensure equipment is properly maintained;

(f)     assist in the implementation of Health and Safety policies of the University; and

(g)    perform any other duties as assigned by the Head of Unit or his delegates.

The appointee may be required to work outside normal office hours occasionally.  

Qualifications

Applicants should have:

(a)    a recognised degree in Chemistry or a related discipline;

(b)    at least three years’ relevant post-qualification work experience, preferably in chemistry laboratories or laboratory classes in tertiary institution;

(c)    a good command of both written and spoken English and Chinese, with fluency in Putonghua being an advantage;

(d)    good computer literacy, e.g. MS Office, SharePoint, Power Automate, Power Apps, etc.;

(e)    strong self-motivation, as well as problem-solving and analytical skills; and

(f)     good interpersonal and communication skills.

Preference will be given to those with hands-on experience in operating analytical instruments, including but not limited to Ultra/High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (UPLC/HPLC), Gas Chromatography (GC), ion chromatography (IC), and UV-VIS spectrophotometers and Infrared (IR) Spectrometer.

Conditions of Service

A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered.  Initial appointment will be on a fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract.  Re-engagement thereafter is subject to mutual agreement.
