Project Associate / Project Assistant

[Appointment period: eighteen months]

Duties 

The appointee will assist the project leader in the project - “HKPM - PolyU Joint Chinese Textile Centre”. He/She will be required to:

(a)    assist the operations of the Joint Chinese Textile Centre between PolyU and the Hong Kong Palace Museum;

(b)    design, develop, and maintain a structured database for exhibits from the Chris Hall collection at the Hong Kong Palace Museum and holdings from other museums;

(c)    conduct regular data entry, validation and updating of the database to ensure its accuracy and completeness;

(d)    liaise with project leaders, curators and technical staff to identify data needs and improve database functionality;

(e)    support data collection and organisation for research and documentation purposes;

(f)     assist in drafting procedural guidelines for data management and database usage; and 

(g)    perform any other duties as assigned by the project leader, Dean of School or their delegates.

The appointee may be required to work on irregular hours including evenings and Saturdays.

Qualifications

Applicants for the Project Associate post should have a master’s degree in Humanities preferably related to Chinese History, Cultural History or Art History or a good honours degree in one of the afore mentioned disciplines with three or more years of research/relevant work experience; 

Applicants for the Project Assistant post should have an honous degree in one of the afore mentioned fields or an equivalent qualification with two or more years of research/relevant work experience.

For both posts, applicants should also have:

(a)    knowledge of and experience in academic and museum databases, library resources and other local and international academic resources related to Chinese humanities;

(b)    experience in data entry, with a strong ability to search for, collect and organise research materials and data;

(c)    a good command of both written and spoken English and Chinese, with fluency in Putonghua;

(d)    good interpersonal and organisational skills;

(e)    a willingness to learn new skills; and

(f)     the ability to work independently.
