Assistant Technical Officer

Duties
The appointee will be required to:
(a) supervise laboratory sessions of experiments to ensure accuracy and adherence to procedures and protocols;
(b) design, fabricate and maintain experiment & research rigs, facilities and equipment, including regular equipment calibration, documentation, and troubleshooting;
(c) manage laboratory operations including equipment borrowing, scheduling fire chamber usage, overseeing maintenance, and providing guidance on equipment utilisation;
(d) provide technical support and advice for all fire-related research projects for the students and staff;
(e) collaborate with the engineering teams to innovate and construct new research-oriented test rigs and systems;
(f) troubleshoot and diagnose problems with fire-related equipment or systems and recommend solutions;
(g) provide recommendations on updated technical information regarding fire-related instruments and facilities;
(h) provide technical support for all fire-related consultancy works; and
(i) perform any other duties as assigned by the Head of Unit or his delegates.
Qualifications
Applicants should:
(a) have a recognised degree or a higher diploma in Engineering, Science or a related discipline;
(b) have at least three years of relevant post-qualification experience in the design, installation, and maintenance of fire-related equipment and systems;
(c) be familiar with industry standards, guidelines and regulations within the fire engineering sector;
(d) have the ability to work independently and prioritise tasks effectively;
(e) have a good command of both written and spoken English and Chinese, with fluency in Cantonese and Putonghua; and
(f) have excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Preference will be given to those with skills in fire related instrument calibration, GCMS maintenance and operation, and experience in workshop practices.

Conditions of Service
A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered. Initial appointment will be on a fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract. Re-engagement thereafter is subject to mutual agreement.
