Postdoctoral Fellow / Part-time Research Assistant

(1)    Postdoctoral Fellow (three posts)
         [Appointment period: each for twelve months]

(2)    Part-time Research Assistant (several posts)
         [Appointment period: each for three months]

Duties

The appointees will assist the project leader in the research project - “Constructing multiscale polar architecture in relaxor ferroelectric single crystals for achieving both high phase transition temperature and superior piezoelectricity”.  They will be required to:

For the post of Postdoctoral Fellow

(a)    undertake specific research project(s) under the guidance of a research leader and contribute to the development of research activities;

(b)    conduct research in line with the norms of the discipline concerned and/or facilitate the research teams to deliver scholarly output;

(c)    assist in the supervision of research students in the related research area as required;

(d)    develop new understandings in the field of ferroelectric materials; and

(e)    support the dissemination of research outcomes through appropriate channels and outlets.

For the post of Research Assistant:

(a)    undertake specific research project(s) under the guidance of a research leader and contribute to the development of research activities;

(b)    assist in carrying out materials characterization experiments; and 

(c)    develop new understandings in the field of advanced materials.

Qualifications

For the post of Postdoctoral Fellow, applicants should have:

(a)    a doctoral degree in Materials Science and Engineering or a related discipline and must have no more than five years of post-qualification experience at the time of application;

(b)    demonstrated track record of publications in the field of materials and electron microscopy;

(c)    experience in advanced microscopy techniques; 

(d)    ability to undertake high quality academic research and conduct independent research with minimal supervision; 

(e)    ability to work in a team, collaborate across disciplines and build effective relationships; and

(f)     ability to communicate and interact with a diverse range of stakeholders and students.

For the post of Research Assistant, applicants should have:

(a)    an honours degree in Materials Science and Engineering or related discipline, and/or relevant work experience;

(b)    experience in using advanced microscopy techniques, such as scanning electron microscopy and in-situ electron microscopy; and

(c)    ability to undertake high quality academic research.

Conditions of Service

For full-time appointment, a highly competitive remuneration package will be offered. 

For part-time appointment, the remuneration rate for the post of Research Assistant is HK$125 per hour.
