Duties
The appointee will be required to:
(a) develop subjects for the Social Design programme that synthesises knowledge and design applications with theories, design research methods and form-giving techniques;
(b) teach at the undergraduate level across all levels of the undergraduate Bachelor of Arts (BA) Design programme and across core and elective studio, seminar and lecture subjects, with adjustment in the teaching delivery to correspond to the subject;
(c) work closely with the programme coordinator and faculty members to facilitate the execution of the programme and offer support in various administrative and educational tasks, academic activities and service which may span design disciplines;
(d) support the preparation and coordination of the admission exercise for the Social and Service Design programme, which may include reviewing applications, conducting interviews, and evaluating portfolios;
(e) act as an academic advisor and provide student support across all student levels as needed with intensive supervisory support provided to final year students completing their final year project;
(f) collaborate with the academic team to ensure curriculum alignment with industry standards and emerging trends in social and service design, community engagement, and sustainable practices, with a view to programme relevance and institutional influence;
(g) provide insights and expertise in social design methodologies, community engagement strategies, and sustainable development to enhance programme content quality and relevance;
(h) engage with prospective students to provide information about the programme, answer inquiries, and assist in the admission process;
(i) contribute to the planning and execution of promotional events and activities related to the launch and continuing reputation of the Social and Service Design programme;
(j) actively seek out inter-departmental collaborative teaching opportunities that promote the BA Design Scheme as a whole; and
(k) perform any other duties as assigned by the Dean of School or his/her delegates.
Qualifications
Applicants should:
(a) have a master’s degree in disciplines related to social design, service design, community development, or related fields, with not less than three years of post-qualification experience in tertiary teaching and/or professional practice within the social and service design industry;
(b) demonstrate expertise and proficiency in:
• procedural workflows in social and service design and utilisation of tools for designing interventions;
• community engagement strategies, including working with diverse communities and advocating for marginalised populations; and
• curriculum development tailored to the unique requirements of social and service design education;
(c) showcase the ability to conduct tutorials, workshops and assessments within the domain of social and service design;
(d) possess exceptional oral and written communication skills to effectively engage with individuals from diverse backgrounds; and
(e) be strongly committed to excellence in teaching and learning.
Conditions of Service
A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered. Initial appointment will be on a fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract. Re-engagement thereafter is subject to mutual agreement.
