Project Associate / Project Assistant (Full-time/Part-time)

[Appointment period: three to six months]

Duties

The appointee will assist the project leader in the project - “PolyU AI x Digital Humanities Award Completion 2026”.  He/She will be required to:

(a)    take a leading role in the development, maintenance, and enhancement of the project’s online platform/competition website, including content management, digital resources, announcements, and project showcases;

(b)    co-develop and support the delivery of innovative workshops and training activities on the application of AI in Chinese history and culture and related humanities contexts;

(c)    design engaging teaching and learning materials, including tutorials, exemplars, workshop handouts, demonstration resources, and video-based learning content; 

(d)    explore, adapt, and present relevant tools and methods in accessible ways for humanities students, such as prompt engineering, named entity recognition (NER), quantitative textual analysis, GeoAI, topic modelling, and other AI-enabled or digital humanities approaches;

(e)    contribute to the planning, coordination, and smooth operation of the PolyU AI x Digital Humanities Awards Competition 2026, including participant support, submission management, event logistics, and communication with students;

(f)     assist in the promotion of the project and its activities through online, on-campus, and 
cross-unit outreach;

(g)    support the development of a vibrant interdisciplinary learning community around AI and Digital Humanities within the Faculty of Humanities;

(h)    assist in project evaluation and impact work, including surveys, feedback collection, data organisation, report preparation, and related dissemination activities; and 

(i)     perform any other duties as assigned by the project leader or his/her delegates.

Qualifications

Applicants for the Project Associate post should have a master’s degree in Digital Humanities, Computer Science, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Educational Technology, History, or a related discipline, or a good honours degree in one of the said disciplines with three or more years of research/relevant work experience.

Applicants for the Project Assistant post should have an honours degree or an equivalent qualification in the above-mentioned disciplines, or a related discipline.

For both posts, applicants should also:

(a)    have solid knowledge of Python programming and familiarity with AI-related tools, methods, or workflows;

(b)    preferably have some experience in machine learning, deep learning, NLP, text analysis, digital project development, or e-learning / online platform support; 

(c)    have a good command of written and spoken English and Chinese;

(d)    have good organisational, communication, and interpersonal skills; and

(e)    have a proactive, responsible, and self-motivated attitude, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

Preference will be given to those with experience in one or more of the following areas: (i) workshop design or delivery; (ii) website/ digital platform development or maintenance; (iii) tutorial video production or digital content creation; (iv) AI or Digital Humanities applications in humanities research or teaching; and/or (v) Chinese-language text processing, historical data, or Chinese history and culture-related projects.

Applicants with stronger qualifications and relevant experience may be considered for appointment as Project Associate. The project specifically requires support in online platform development, 
AI-related workshop and resource development, competition operation, and associated project activities.

Conditions of Service

For full-time appointment, a highly competitive remuneration package will be offered.

For part-time appointment, the remuneration rates are HK$181 per hour for the post of Project Associate and HK$125 per hour for the post of Project Assistant.
