Manager, Communications and Public Affairs (Communications)

Duties 

The Manager (Communications) will support the implementation of the University’s content and storytelling strategy through the development, coordination and delivery of publications, newsletters and other communications materials that enhance the University’s brand value and strengthen its academic and institutional reputation. The appointee will contribute to storytelling, story development, editorial planning, publication production and related operational support across a range of communications platforms.

The appointee will be required to:

(a)    Content Development and Publications
•    support the planning, production and management of key University publications and communications materials, with a particular focus on the University’s annual report, monthly newsletter and other assigned content initiatives, including anniversary-related communications;

•    proactively explore story opportunities and interview professors, researchers, students and other stakeholders to develop impactful stories and storytelling content, and adapt them across different platforms, including website articles, newsletters, magazines, video and social media;

(b)    Editorial and Production Coordination
•    coordinate the editorial, production and delivery processes for assigned publications and communications materials, including content collation, copyediting, proofreading and liaison with content sources;

•    work with in-house or external designers on publication cover design, layout and related production matters to ensure quality, consistency and timely delivery of outputs;

(c)    Executive and Corporate Communications Support
•    assist in preparing speeches, messages, presentations, briefing materials, background research and other written content to support the University’s senior management, as assigned;

(d)    Administrative and Operational Support
•    support operational and administrative tasks related to communications projects and publications, including budget monitoring, procurement, vendor coordination and other logistical arrangements as required;

•    liaise with internal colleagues, academic and administrative units, as well as external service providers to support the effective implementation of communications projects and publication schedules; and

(e)    Additional Duties
•    perform any other duties as assigned by the Director of Office or her delegates or the Central Management of the University from time to time.

Qualifications 

Applicants should: 

(a)    have a recognised degree in Communications, Journalism, Chinese or English Language, or a related discipline, with at least six years of solid writing and editorial experience in corporate communications, public affairs or related fields;

(b)    demonstrate excellent writing and editing skills, with the ability to write clearly, accurately and efficiently on a wide range of subjects in both English and Chinese, and possess a strong sense of storytelling and keen attention to detail;

(c)    possess a positive and creative mindset, with good interpersonal, organisational and project management skills, and be highly self-motivated and able to work independently; and

(d)    be able to work effectively under pressure and meet tight deadlines.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to sit for a written test. 

Conditions of Service

A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered.  Initial appointment will be on a fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract.  Re-engagement thereafter is subject to mutual agreement.
