Research Associate / Research Assistant (several posts)

[Appointment period: each for six months initially, with possibility of further appointment]

Duties

The appointees will assist the project leader in the research project - “Multilingual speech brain-machine interface (BMI): accurately translating brain activity signal into speech with English, Mandarin and Cantonese”.  They will be required to:

(a)    use EDA tool to design, simulate, and verify electronic systems like integrated circuits and printed circuit boards;

(b)    design, integrate, and optimise the portable EEG system;

(c)    assist in EEG/MEG experiment design and data acquisition;

(d)    process and analyse EEG/MEG data using Python/C++ and deep learning/brain-inspired learning; 

(e)    participate in writing and publishing scientific papers; and

(f)     perform any other duties as assigned by the project leader or his/her delegates.

Qualifications

Applicants for the Research Associate post should have a Master’s degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering / Mechanical Design, Manufacturing and Automation / Precision Instrument / Biomedical Engineering / Computer Science / Software Engineering or equivalent fields, or a good honours degree in one of the above-mentioned disciplines with at least three years of research/relevant work experience.

Applicants for the Research Assistant post should have an honours degree in one of the above-mentioned disciplines or an equivalent qualification.

Applicants should also have:

(a)    rich work experience in electrical design and integration, system measurement and control, data acquisition of EEG or other medical imaging equipment; 

(b)    a strong interest in the miniaturisation and portability, data acquisition optimisation, and data post-processing of EEG/MEG; and

(c)    strong communication and interpersonal skills, a meticulous and responsible work attitude, an independent ability in equipment integration and development, as well as high execution capability.
