Project Associate / Project Assistant

[Appointment period: twelve months initially, with possibility of further appointment]

Duties

The appointee will carry the functional post title of System Developer.  He/She will assist the project leader in the project - “Learning Analytics Platform (LAP) and the Programme Learning Analytics Report (PLAR)” and will join the project team to support the development of an AI-supported Learning Analytics Platform and the generation of teaching and learning reports.  

The appointee will be required to:

(a)    develop responsive and interactive front-end applications using React.js/Next.js with GraphQL integration;

(b)    design, develop and maintain scalable back-end systems (Node.js/Python) and robust APIs;

(c)    manage database architecture (SQL/NoSQL) and perform query optimisation for large-scale educational datasets;

(d)    integrate AI/LLM models (e.g. OpenAI, Anthropic) with Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) and vector databases;

(e)    collaborate with internal teams and departments to gather requirements and ensure technical solutions align with educational objectives; 

(f)     conduct testing and quality assurance to ensure code quality, security standards, and performance; and

(g)    perform any other duties as assigned by the project leader or his/her delegate(s).

Qualifications

Applicants for the Project Associate post should have a master’s degree or a good honours degree with three or more years of research/relevant work experience. 

Applicants for the Project Assistant post should have an honours degree or an equivalent qualification.

For both posts, applicants should also demonstrate:

(a)    proficiency in full-stack development (React.js/Next.js and Node.js);

(b)    hands-on experience in API development (RESTful or GraphQL) and database design/optimisation;

(c)    practical experience in AI/ML integration;

(d)    strong problem-solving skills with a focus on code quality, security, and performance tuning; and

(e)    ability to learn quickly and work independently.

Preference will be given to those with experience in vector databases, React Native/Flutter, or educational technology projects.
