Duties

The appointees will assist the project leader in the research project - “The impact and optimisation of urban redevelopment incentives: Efficiency, spillover, and quantitative spatial equilibrium in Hong Kong”.  They will be required to conduct rigorous theoretical or empirical studies, including desktop research, model simulation, data sorting, geo mapping and spatial analysis.

Qualifications

Applicants for the Research Associate post should have a master’s degree or above in Economics, Urban Studies, Real Estate, Urban Economics or a related discipline. 

Applicants for the Research Assistant post should have an honours degree in the afore-mentioned disciplines or an equivalent qualification.

Applicants should also:

(a)    have relevant research experience in any of the research areas in (i) Spatial data analysis, particularly with gridded (raster) or geo-referenced datasets; (ii) Quantitative research methods (e.g., regression analysis, machine learning); (iii) Computational methods, including dynamic programming and simulation; or (iv) Predictive modeling and/or neural network applications; and

(b)    be able to perform analysis with analytical tools, such as Matlab, Python, R, Stata and GIS.

Preference will be given to those with experience in handling large-scale gridded datasets (e.g., spatial panels and raster data) and proficiency in Python for data analysis, predictive modelling and neural network implementation (e.g., using libraries such as TensorFlow or PyTorch).
