Library Assistant I (Access and Facilities)

Duties 

The appointee will be required to:  

(a)    supervise and coach a team of support staff to provide friendly front-line services;

(b)    answer enquiries and communicate effectively with patrons on user services and library’s policies and regulations; 

(c)    investigate, resolve and respond to suggestions, complaints, or special requests pertaining to access and facilities services; 

(d)    assist the Librarian (Access & Facilities) in managing the Reserve Collection and other physical collections;

(e)    monitor the maintenance of study space and library facilities, follow up with user feedback, and liaise with relevant campus maintenance departments;

(f)     assist the Section Head (Access & Facilities) to enforce library regulations on user conduct and the proper use of library facilities;

(g)    assist in library automation, collection maintenance and other special projects;

(h)    perform counter duties; and

(i)     perform any other duties as assigned by the University Librarian or her delegates.

Qualifications 

Applicants should: 

(a)    have a recognised degree; 

(b)    preferably have operational and supervisory experience in an academic library setting;

(c)    be familiar with integrated library systems (such as Ex Libris Alma) and interlibrary loan systems (such as Rapido), which are highly desirable;

(d)    have the qualities of a good team player with a strong sense of responsibility and a proactive mindset;

(e)    have good customer services, supervisory, interpersonal and communication skills; and

(f)     have a good command of both written and spoken English and Chinese, including Putonghua.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to sit for a written language proficiency test.

Conditions of Service 

A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered.  Initial appointment will be on a fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract.  Re-engagement thereafter is subject to mutual agreement.
