Duties
The appointee will be required to:
(a) provide technical support to staff and students for a range of facilities in the Department, including Scanning Electron Microscopy, Raman Spectroscopy, FTIR Spectroscopy, Solar Simulator, Ultrafast Laser Spectroscopy, Physical Property Measurement System, Near-field Optical Microscopy, and Chemical/Physical Vapour Deposition Systems, etc.;
(b) provide regular training to users on the operation of the facilities;
(c) take charge of laboratory and chemical safety management, e.g., conducting safety inspection, providing safety training to users, preparing safety-related documents, and communicating with users about the safety matters, etc.;
(d) provide support for room access system as well as manage laboratories and research offices;
(e) handle matters related to the facility booking and charging systems;
(f) coordinate the purchase and storage of chemicals;
(g) provide support to activities involving the use of laboratories/facilities; and
(h) perform any other duties as assigned by the Head of Department or his delegates.
Qualifications
Applicants should:
(a) have a recognised degree in Physics, Applied Physics, Engineering Physics, Materials Science or a related discipline;
(b) have at least five years’ relevant post-qualification experience in materials science and advanced instrumentation, with demonstrated achievement in the development of research/teaching experimental setups and platforms; and
(c) be able to communicate effectively in both written and spoken English and Chinese.
Preference will be given to those who have postgraduate qualification(s) and research experience. Solid knowledge of materials synthesis, microfabrication and electronics would be a definite advantage.
Conditions of Service
A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered. Initial appointment will be on a fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract. Re-engagement thereafter is subject to mutual agreement.
