Duties

The appointee will lead the operational execution of entrepreneurship and knowledge transfer (KT) initiatives across the Mainland Translational Research Institutes (MTRIs).  He/She will be required to:

(a)    oversee the daily operations and service delivery of InnoHubs located within MTRIs by ensuring they provide high-quality incubation support, prototyping facilities, and professional services to PolyU entrepreneurs;

(b)    actively nurture start-ups within the MTRI ecosystem by providing business development advice, facilitating mentorship matching, and assisting in navigating Mainland-specific commercialisation challenges;

(c)    assist the students of the Master of Technology Entrepreneurship (MTE) programme in creating the start-ups in MTRIs;

(d)    maintain and expand connections with local government authorities, industrial zones, and professional service providers in the cities of MTRIs (e.g. Jinjiang, Nanjing, Shenzhen, Wuxi, Hangzhou, etc.) to facilitate smooth project execution;

(e)    organise and execute entrepreneurial funding schemes, pitch competitions, and roadshows specifically targeting the MTRI regions to identify high-potential technology ventures; 

(f)     plan and lead promotional events, technology showcases, and networking sessions at MTRIs to enhance the visibility of PolyU’s translational research outputs to Mainland investors and industry partners; 

(g)    assist the Director/Assistant Director in implementing KT policies and guidelines at MTRIs, ensuring all activities complied with both University regulations and local Mainland laws; 

(h)    compile progress reports, KPIs, and impact assessments related to MTRI activities and start-up performance for management review; and

(i)     perform any other duties as assigned by the Director of Knowledge Transfer and Entrepreneurship or his/her delegates.

Working on irregular hours including weekday evenings, Saturdays and Sundays, and occasional travel outside Hong Kong may be required.

Qualifications

Applicants should have:

(a)    a recognised degree, preferably in Science, Engineering, Business Administration or a related field;

(b)    at least eight years of solid and relevant post-qualification experience, with a proven track record in technology transfer, business incubation or project management;

(c)    direct experience in Chinese Mainland’s innovation and technology sector, preferably involving science parks or translational research institutes;

(d)    experience in managing academic–industrial collaboration programmes or student entrepreneurship initiatives;

(e)    sound knowledge of the business environment, government grant systems, and start-up ecosystems in the Greater Bay Area and other major Mainland cities;

(f)     strong ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously across different geographical locations;

(g)    an excellent command of both written and spoken English and Chinese, with native or near-native fluency in Putonghua being essential for effective communication with Mainland stakeholders;

(h)    an understanding of lean start-up methodologies, IP commercialization, and the needs of deep‑tech founders; and

(i)     excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively with internal and external partners.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to sit for a written test. 

Conditions of Service

A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered.  Initial appointment will be on a fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract.  Re-engagement thereafter is subject to mutual agreement.
