Research Assistant (two posts)

[Appointment period: each for three to twelve months]

Duties 

The appointees will assist the project leader in the research project - “AI-driven, GIS-compatible vehicle type detection system riding on fusion of satellite, CCTV, and geospatial data”.  They will be required to:

(a)    assist in dataset development, including labelling vehicles in satellite and CCTV images, and labelling ground scribbles in CCTV images;

(b)    construct a self-supervised AI foundation model framework;

(c)    develop a semi‑supervised AI‑based vehicle‑detection algorithm; and

(d)    implement a weakly supervised AI‑based ground‑extraction algorithm.

Qualifications

Applicants should: 

(a)    have an honours degree or an equivalent qualification;

(b)    be proficient in machine learning frameworks;

(c)    have strong background in AI modelling, quantitative data analysis, mathematical modelling, and experience in methodological development and implementation;

(d)    be highly proficient in written and spoken English; and

(e)    be willing to work in a collaborative environment.

Preference will be given to those with:

(a)    strong background in quantitative methods, geospatial methods, AI and machine learning; 

(b)    experience in high-performance and cloud computing;

(c)    skills in mathematical modelling and scientific computing; 

(d)    an ability to work independently; and 

(e)    familiarity with scientific methods and discovery process.

Conditions of Service
