Duties
The appointees will assist the project leader in the research project - “Scaling low-bit training for efficient large model deployment”. They will be required to:
(a) build and maintain end-to-end training infrastructure for pre-training, SFT and RL, including infrastructure maintenance, testing and new feature development;
(b) develop and optimise low-precision training methods for Large Language Models (LLMs) under FP8 and FP4 precision, covering pre-training, SFT and RL while maintaining model performance;
(c) implement high-performance CUDA kernels for quantisation, focusing on efficiency and stability; and
(d) perform any other duties as assigned by the project leader, the Head of Unit or their delegates.
Qualifications
Applicants for the Research Fellow / Project Fellow post should have a doctoral degree plus at least three years of postdoctoral research experience or equivalent qualifications and experience.
Applicants for the Postdoctoral Fellow post should have a doctoral degree or an equivalent qualification and must have no more than five years of post-qualification experience at the time of application.
Applicants for the Research Associate / Project Associate post should have a master’s degree or a good honours degree with three or more years of research/relevant work experience.
Applicants for the Research Assistant / Project Assistant posts should have an honours degree or an equivalent qualification.
For all posts, applicants should have:
(a) demonstrated expertise in LLMs;
(b) strong self-directed learning capacity to assimilate foundation model building; and
(c) commitment to open, reproducible and high-value AI research.

Conditions of Service
For full-time appointment(s), a highly competitive remuneration package will be offered.
For part-time appointment(s), the remuneration rates for the posts of Research Fellow/Project Fellow, Postdoctoral Fellow, Research Associate/Project Associate and Research Assistant/Project Assistant are HK$394 per hour, HK$385 per hour, HK$181 per hour and HK$125 per hour respectively.
