The University is looking for a dynamic and highly competent professional to lead and develop the Global Engagement Office.
The Global Engagement Office (GEO) is dedicated to steering and coordinating the implementation of the global engagement strategy, policies and initiatives of the University. For further details on GEO, please visit its website at https://www.polyu.edu.hk/geo/.
Job Functions
The appointee, reporting to the Vice President (Student and Global Affairs) and the Associate Vice President (Global Partnerships), will assume overall management of the GEO and be required to take up the following responsibilities to support the University’s development in learning and teaching, research and knowledge transfer in the global context:
(a) develop and implement outreach strategies and initiatives to enhance the global presence and reputation of the University across key areas, including institutional partnerships, student exchange and mobility programmes, education, research and knowledge transfer activities, and overseas alumni associations;
(b) identify, initiate, and cultivate strategic partnerships with international universities, research institutes, and organizations, and strengthen links with leading universities to explore collaboration opportunities to ensure alignment with institutional goals;
(c) expand and enrich students’ non-local learning opportunities, including, but not limited to, student exchange programmes and non-local work-integrated education, through strategic collaborations with institutional partners and stakeholders outside Hong Kong;
(d) enhance the University’s international profile and support engagement through strengthening collaborations and active participation in strategic networks with global partners and overseas alumni associations;
(e) provide leadership in overseeing branding, marketing, and event management to support and advance the University’s globalisation efforts;
(f) support the University Social Responsibility Network in achieving its mission and objectives;
(g) lead, motivate and develop GEO staff, fostering a culture of collaboration, growth, and excellence in delivering the mission of the Office in line with institutional priorities; and
(h) undertake any other duties as assigned by the Vice President (Student and Global Affairs), the Associate Vice President (Global Partnerships), their delegates, or the Central Management of the University from time to time.
Qualifications
Applicants should have:
(a) a recognised degree with not less than fifteen years of relevant experience, of which at least ten years should be at the management level, preferably with a master’s degree and experience in managing global engagement activities in tertiary institutions or sizable organisations;
(b) outstanding leadership skills, business acumen and strategic perspectives;
(c) a good knowledge of the higher education environment in the local and global context;
(d) the willingness to regularly travel outside Hong Kong;
(e) excellent organisational, people management, communication and interpersonal skills; and
(f) an excellent command of both written and spoken English and Chinese, with fluency in Putonghua being an important advantage.
Conditions of Service
A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered. Initial appointment will be on a fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract. Re-engagement thereafter is subject to mutual agreement.
