Research Assistant Professor in Bioinformatics for Multi-omics Studies

The Department of Applied Biology and Chemical Technology (ABCT) is a multi-disciplinary department in The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) that embraces chemistry, biology, biochemistry, biochemical engineering and materials science. In keeping with the mission of PolyU, ABCT focuses on providing high quality education and building our strength in basic and applied research to meet the requirements of a rapidly changing society. Duties

The appointee will be required to:

(a)    conduct high-impact research as the primary responsibility and actively pursue external research grants, such as General Research Fund, as Principal Investigator or Co-Investigator; 

(b)    develop and apply computational methods to analyse multi-omics data, specifically focusing on ribosome profiling, mass spectrometry-based proteomics, next-generation sequencing (NGS) and spatial transcriptomics, etc.; 

(c)    provide quality teaching at undergraduate or postgraduate level;

(d)    contribute to departmental service; and

(e)    perform any other duties as assigned by the Head of Department or his/her delegates. 

Qualifications

Applicants should:

(a)    have a PhD degree in Bioinformatics, Bioengineering, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science or a related discipline;

(b)    preferably have at least two years of postdoctoral research experience; 

(c)    have demonstrated a solid understanding of biology, with the ability to communicate effectively with biologists and clinical partners;

(d)    exhibit a strong research portfolio, evidenced by high-quality publications or impactful projects in omics research; 

(e)    be able to demonstrate effective classroom teaching skills; 

(f)     have strong programming skills, excellent analytical skills and the ability to work independently; and

(g)    be highly proficient in written and spoken English.

Conditions of Service

A highly competitive package including a medical benefits plan and a gratuity payable upon completion of the term which is normally for two to three years initially, with possibility of extension.
