Teaching Fellow

[Appointment period: twelve months]

Duties 

The appointee will be required to: 

(a) contribute to the development, delivery and support of curriculum, teaching, and administration for undergraduate and taught postgraduate programmes, including the Bachelor’s degrees (Honours) in Interior Design and in Environment Design, Master’s degree in Transitional Environments Design and the upcoming Bachelor’s degree in Architectural Studies (the programmes); 

(b) develop curriculum for subjects hosted by the School, including but not limited to: 
• writing and revising curriculum documents, including syllabi and subject briefs;
• collaborating with staff to align the curriculum with industry standards, emerging trends and internal programme requirements;
• assisting in the implementation of the curriculum, both directly through teaching and indirectly by supporting related staff;

(c) deliver teaching for subjects hosted by the School, including but not limited to: 
•  teaching an anticipated credit load of 24 or more credit hours subject to the arrangement of the School;
• assisting in the evaluation of teaching and learning outcomes through the assessment of student work and alignment of course results with other components of the curriculum;

(d) provide professional support for academic programmes in the School, including but not limited to:
• participating in programme admission exercises, such as reviewing applications, interviewing applicants and evaluating proposed admissions;
• promoting programmes to prospective students, including engaging with prospective students, responding to inquiries, planning and executing promotional events and activities related to the programmes; and

(e) perform any other duties as assigned by the Dean of School or his delegates.

Qualifications 

Applicants should: 

(a) have a master’s degree in a field related to interior design, environment design, architecture, urban design, or a similar discipline, with a minimum of three years of post-qualification experience in tertiary teaching and/or professional practice within the spatial design field; 

(b) demonstrate expertise and proficiency in the following subject areas:
• a holistic understanding of biosystems, environmental systems and an integrated approach to spatial design and spatial concepts;
• knowledge of construction engineering, building systems engineering, structural engineering or related fields;
• proficiency in 3D drafting and modelling;
• teaching experience in a studio, design classroom or architectural classroom environment, including demonstrable experience in leading student projects at both undergraduate and graduate levels;

(c) demonstrate, through a portfolio of professional or teaching work, the ability to teach design process-related skills, concepts and subject matter; 

(d) demonstrate experience and/or ability to develop and deliver curriculum to students at multiple levels of education, including undergraduate and graduate; and

(e) exhibit exceptional oral and written communication skills and the ability to engage with individuals from diverse backgrounds and pedagogical traditions.

Preference will be given to those who are familiar with Autodesk Revit, Rhinoceros 3D Grasshopper and Autodesk AutoCAD.
