Duties

The appointee will assist the project leader in the research project - “From Chatbots to Carebots: AI, emotion and the politics of mental health in China (pilot study)”.  He/She will be required to:

(a)    conduct literature review in Chinese on artificial intelligence in mental health, digital care, medical anthropology and related fields;

(b)    assist in digital ethnography, including the monitoring and documentation of online platform discussion;

(c)    liaise with companies and institutions in the Chinese Mainland to support arrangements for fieldwork and interviews;

(d)    assist in fieldwork preparation and logistical arrangements for short research visits to Shanghai and Hangzhou;

(e)    transcribe interviews in Chinese; and

(f)     perform any other duties as assigned by the Head of Unit or his delegates.

Qualifications

Applicants should:

(a)    have a master’s degree or an honours degree in Anthropology, Sociology, Media Studies, Psychology, Science and Technology Studies, China Studies or other related disciplines;

(b)    have a good command of both written and spoken English and Chinese, with fluency in Putonghua;

(c)    have good research and organisational skills;

(d)    be resourceful and proactive; and

(e)    be a good team player and able to work independently.

Preference will be given to those with experience in ethnographic or qualitative research, digital ethnography or online research methods, and/or research interests in mental health, care, emotion or science and technology studies.
