Research Associate / Research Assistant (two posts)

[Appointment period: each for five months]

Duties

The appointees will assist the project leader in the research project – “Design considerations of physical environment in Hong Kong long-term care facilities and social networks of residents with dementia: A participatory design approach”.  They will be required to:

(a)    develop software on embedded systems, mobile devices and server for realising interactive functions of the system to be used in the facilities for collecting research data;

(b)    assist in hardware development of embedded systems, including circuit design and evaluations of sensors for realising interactive functions of the said systems;

(c)    assist in 3D modelling and fabrication of physical components for the above-mentioned systems; 

(d)    assist in processing and analysing collected research data; and

(e)    perform any other duties as assigned by the project leader or his delegates.

Qualifications

Applicants for the Research Associate post should have a master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Interaction Design or related fields or a good honours degree in the said disciplines with three or more years of research/relevant work experience.

Applicants for the Research Assistant post should have an honour degree in the above-mentioned disciplines or an equivalent qualification.

Applicants should also have:

(a)    an excellent command of both spoken English and Chinese including Cantonese; and

(b)    the ability to work independently and meet the work schedule.

Preference will be given to those with experience in user interface and user experience design and evaluation.
