The Research Centre of Textiles for Future Fashion (RCTFF) was established in October 2023 as one of the constituent research units under the PolyU Academy for Interdisciplinary Research, aspiring to be a leading interdisciplinary Research and Development (R&D) centre to address real world challenges of textiles and fashion for health, wellbeing, protection, performance and sustainability.  RCTFF will capitalise and synergise the interdisciplinary R&D strength of PolyU in innovative design approaches, smart functional materials, advanced enabling technologies and new business concepts for the sustainable development of the fashion and textile value chain.  Please visit the website at https://www.polyu.edu.hk/rctff/ for more information about RCTFF.

Duties

The appointee will be required to:

(a) assist in the development and maintenance of novel textile manufacturing technologies, such as 2D / 3D Electrospinning System and Microfluidic Fiber Spinning System;

(b) provide support in the enhancement of novel textile evaluation technologies, such as sweating fabric manikin, sweating simulator and directional liquid transport tester;

(c) assist in the advancement of novel thermoregulatory clothing systems, such as thermoelectric cooling vest for personnel wearing PPE and outdoor cooling garments;

(d) assist in the upkeep of innovative novel digital fashion systems, such as the Fashion Style Recommendation System;

(e) provide technical support to R&D activities under RCTFF; and

(f) perform any other duties as assigned by the Director of RCTFF or his/her delegates.

Qualifications

Applicants should have: 

(a) a master’s degree or above in Electronic, Software and/or Mechanical Engineering with at least five years of relevant post-qualification work experience;  

(b) good analytical, interpersonal and communication skills; 

(c) practical experience in collaborating with multidisciplinary teams; and

(d) a good command of both written and spoken English and Chinese, with fluency in Putonghua being an advantage.

Conditions of Service

A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered.  Initial appointment will be on a fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract.  Re-engagement thereafter is subject to mutual agreement.
