Duties
The appointee will take up the role as Software Developer to assist the project leader in the AI-powered progressive assessment project “Language and communication competency assessment (LCCA)”. He/She will be required to:
(a) develop and maintain robust backend services for the assessment platform, including database design and API development;
(b) manage data workflows, ensure data integrity and optimise database performance for efficient assessment operations;
(c) integrate AI services and large language models into the assessment platform to support intelligent scenario generation and automated scoring;
(d) implement and test the scenario generation engine to create realistic, contextual language assessment scenarios;
(e) develop and optimise the scoring engine to ensure accurate and consistent evaluation of student responses;
(f) design and implement user interface (UI) and user experience (UX) elements for creating intuitive and engaging assessment experience to the users;
(g) conduct frontend development using modern web technologies to deliver responsive, accessible assessment interfaces;
(h) collaborate with the technical team to ensure code quality, testing and adherence to best practices and security standards; and
(i) perform any other duties as assigned by the project leader or his/her delegates.
Qualifications
Applicants should have:
(a) a master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field, OR a good honours degree with three or more years of research/relevant work experience in full-stack software development;
(b) demonstrated proficiency in backend development using modern programming languages (e.g., Python, Java, Node.js);
(c) strong experience in database design and management (SQL and/or NoSQL);
(d) hands-on experience in frontend technologies (HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript/React/Vue.js or similar frameworks);
(e) familiarity with AI/ML integration and API consumption, preferably with experience in using language models;
(f) strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail and ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team; and
(g) excellent communication skills and ability to document technical work clearly.
