Research Associate / Project Associate (two posts)

[Appointment period: each for twelve months initially, with the possibility of further appointment]

Duties 

The appointees will assist the project leader in the research project – “Legal foundation model system”.  He/she will act as Senior Front-end Engineer and be required to:

(a)    build high-performance, responsive web applications for use cases using React, Next.js, and modern front-end stacks; design/implement front-end integration for GraphQL/RESTful APIs to enable efficient data fetching and rendering;

(b)    integrate Large Language Models (LLM) on the front-end; implement real-time LLM interaction via SSE or similar technologies; optimise multi-round conversation and Agent-driven workflows for enhanced UX;  

(c)    design, develop, and maintain text editors (Tiptap/Office stack expertise preferred) and complex UI components; ensure pixel-perfect design implementation and smooth interactions; deliver sophisticated animations/transitions;    

(d)    continuously optimise front-end performance and page load speed; ensure cross-platform/browser compatibility and stable mobile responsiveness; and

(e)    leverage AI/automation tools to boost development efficiency; contribute to front-end workflows, testing strategies, and CI/CD implementation; collaborate closely with product, design, and back-end teams for rapid iteration.  

Qualifications

Applicants should:

(a)    have a master’s degree, or a good honours degree in Computer Science or related fields with three or more years of front-end engineering internship/practical experience;

(b)    have deep expertise in JavaScript (ES6+), React, Next.js (core mechanisms & best practices), strong componentization/modularization skills, and proficient in GraphQL/RESTful API integration;

(c)    have in-depth understanding of LLM front-end use cases, hands-on experience with real-time data push (SSE or similar), knowledge of Agent technology trends and solution design;

(d)    have prior experience in rich text editor or content creation product development with focus on UI fidelity and interaction details;

(e)    be proficient in CSS/animation libraries to implement complex transitions, with track record of front-end performance analysis, monitoring, and optimisation;

(f)     be familiar with mobile/multi-browser adaptation/debugging and ability to resolve compatibility issues efficiently;

(g)    have excellent communication and teamwork skills, be proactive in adopting emerging technologies/AI tools; and

(h)    have strong self-learning and rapid iteration capabilities to adapt to changing requirements/technologies.

Preference will be given to those with the below qualifications:

(a)    SaaS platform front-end development experience, understanding of user centers, SSO, and permission system; 

(b)    familiarity with CI/CD pipelines or DevOps practice;

(c)    back-end/database knowledge (Node.js, Python, Go, PostgreSQL, etc.) and holistic understanding of full technology stacks; and

(d)   experience in large-scale/high-concurrency front-end projects with deep expertise in performance optimisation and architecture design.
