The University is now inviting applications and nominations for the post of Director of Information Technology. Reporting to the Vice President (Education), the appointee will provide leadership and strategic direction in driving digital transformation and leveraging emerging technologies to support the strategic goals of the University.
This position calls for a visionary and dynamic leader with a strong drive for excellent performance and a dedication to lead a talented team of around 140 IT professionals in driving innovation and providing a wide spectrum of services to different stakeholders of the University at all levels for the advancement of education, research and administration through technology. Job Functions
The appointee will be required to:
(a) provide vision, leadership and strategic direction on the exploitation of emerging digital technologies, such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning, cloud computing, Internet of Things (IoT) and big data analytics, to drive innovation and digital transformation in alignment with the University’s Strategic Plan;
(b) formulate and implement cutting-edge and innovative IT strategies, policies and services to achieve the key goals and objectives of the University, and ensure the seamless integration of technology in teaching, learning, research and administrative processes across all units;
(c) provide strategic advice and support to the Central Management on all aspects of IT and digital services and assume overall leadership and managerial responsibilities to all functions of the Office;
(d) oversee the design and implementation of universityscale systems and projects in alignment with the University’s educational and research priorities, as well as software development models and approaches;
(e) facilitate digital transformation and re-engineering of existing business processes, identify and develop the capability to use new AI tools and services and drive crucial information and communications technology (ICT) projects that streamline data flows, create synergies, ensure optimal performance in support of teaching, learning, research and administration objectives of the University;
(f) stay ahead of digital trends and emerging technologies and set strategic objectives and goals for ITS to ensure efficient deployment of resources;
(g) advocate and cultivate a professional and customer-oriented culture amongst staff at all levels of the Office to provide client-focused services to the University community; and
(h) perform any other duties as assigned by the Vice President (Education) or his delegate(s) or the Central Management of the University from time to time.
Qualifications
Applicants should have:
(a) a recognised degree in relevant fields, and a relevant professional or postgraduate qualification;
(b) proven leadership experience and ability in managing and directing a cross-functional team of IT professionals in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, with outstanding leadership skills, business acumen and strategic perspectives;
(c) extensive experience in formulating strategies and demonstrated track record of successfully leading digital transformation initiatives as well as implementing changes with significant impacts;
(d) prior IT experience and a clear vision of digital transformation and proven track record of managing large-scale and complex IT operations and applying AI and Machine Learning to drive efficiency and innovation;
(e) strong understanding of emerging technologies and knowledge of advancements in IT services, with the ability to add value through knowledge from emerging technological tools, including but not limited to AI, IoT and data analytics;
(f) excellent knowledge of IT systems and infrastructure, sophisticated analytical mindset with strong planning and organising abilities as well as problem-solving skills;
(g) exceptional skills in stakeholder management and ability to communicate and collaborate effectively at various levels with excellent adaptability to changes and challenges; and
(h) an excellent command of both written and spoken English and Chinese, preferably with fluency in Putonghua.
Conditions of Service
A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered. Initial appointment will be on a fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract. Re-engagement thereafter is subject to mutual agreement.
