Postdoctoral Fellow / Research Assistant

[Appointment period: each for twelve months]
Duties
The appointees will assist the project leader in the research project - “PolyU-CSU joint center of space manufacturing technologies”. The joint research centre is formed between the Chinese Academy of Science and PolyU.
For the Postdoctoral Fellow posts, the appointees will be required to:
(a) lead and conduct pioneering research in the fields focus on space 3D printing, space-grade composites, specialty optical fibers and space equipment automation;
(b) develop and implement innovative engineering solutions; and
(c) publish high-impact research papers and contribute to grant applications.
For the Research Assistant posts, the appointee for post 1 will be responsible for space technology while the appointee for post 2 will be responsible for laboratory management. They will be required to:
Post 1 of Research Assistant
(a) conduct mechanical design and analysis for innovative space applications;
(b) source and select components for research prototypes; and
(c) support and lead automation tasks.
Post 2 of Research Assistant
(a) oversee day-to-day internal laboratory operations;
(b) develop and execute communication and publicity strategies;
(c) draft and submit project proposals and grant applications; and
(d) serve as the primary point of contact for external partners.
Qualifications
For the posts of Postdoctoral Fellow, applicants should:
(a) have a doctoral degree in an appropriate discipline related to Engineering or Materials Science, or an equivalent qualification and must have no more than five years of post-qualification experience at the time of application;
(b) have exceptional engineering skills and hands-on implementation skills;
(c) have strong publication record and excellent technical writing ability; and
(d) be highly motivated and collaborative.
For the posts of Research Assistant, applicants should:
Post 1 of Research Assistant
(a) have an honours degree in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent qualification;
(b) have at least two years of professional experience in an industrial setting;
(c) have proven track record of independently completing or leading at least 5 projects in mechanical design and automation;
(d) be proficient in designing and processing 3D-printers and sealed chambers; and
(e) have strong problem-solving skills and a collaborative mindset.
Post 2 of Research Assistant
(a) have an honours degree in an appropriate discipline or an equivalent qualification;
(b) have excellent organizational and communication skills; and
(c) have proven ability to manage projects from conception to completion.
Preference will be given to those with experience in project proposal writing and public relation, and strong interest in space science and technology.
