The appointee will support promotional campaigns and distribution activities for The Hong Kong Polytechnic University Press (PolyU Press), a division of the Communications and Public Affairs Office (CPA). PolyU Press aims at publishing high-quality books and works from outstanding scholars, researchers and authors in print and/or electronic format to both local and global audiences. The publications will include academic and non-academic books, professional publications, journals, and books of general interest, which have a strong focus on PolyU — its education, research and knowledge transfer.
We are seeking a high-calibre marketing professional with a strong track record in executing results-driven marketing strategies. This is an exciting opportunity for an individual with a passion for publishing and a creative mindset to contribute to the success of a young university press. The ideal candidate will be creative, well-organised and eager to enhance PolyU Press publication exposure while collaborating with multiple stakeholders.
Duties
The appointee will be required to:
(a) develop and execute creative promotional campaigns and activities, including book launches, seminars, and bookstore events, so as to maximise the visibility of PolyU Press publications across both physical and digital channels in Hong Kong and the Chinese Mainland;
(b) ideate, coordinate, and produce marketing materials such as flyers, posters, newsletters, and other assets that effectively communicate PolyU Press’s branding and initiatives;
(c) manage and update the PolyU Press website, oversee book inventory, coordinate book orders and reprints, and explore print-on-demand solutions to enhance operational efficiency;
(d) oversee and expand PolyU Press’s presence on social media platforms in Hong Kong and the Chinese Mainland, ensuring consistent and engaging content that aligns with the Press’s brand image;
(e) collaborate closely with internal teams, external partners, and authors to support engagement initiatives and foster strong relationships within the publishing community;
(f) participate in publishing meetings and provide constructive feedback on potential authors, new projects, and book proposals to support decision-making; and
(g) perform any other duties as assigned by the Chairman of PolyU Press, the Director of PolyU Press, the Director of Communications and Public Affairs, and the Central Management Team of the University from time to time.
Qualifications
Applicants should:
(a) have a recognised degree, preferably in a field related to Marketing, Communications or Education;
(b) have at least five years of marketing experience in education, educational publishing or similar fields;
(c) have an excellent command of both written and spoken English and Chinese, with fluency in Putonghua being an advantage;
(d) have exceptional interpersonal skills, with the ability to form networks and relationships with key stakeholders;
(e) have a proven track record of developing and implementing successful marketing strategies;
(f) be innovative, strongly-motivated and possess excellent multi-tasking skills;
(g) be experienced in using social media;
(h) have the ability to set and meet target within the budget;
(i) be proficient with Microsoft Office and have the ability to learn new applications; and
(j) have knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite programs, with familiarity of online marketing tools like Canva being an advantage.
Shortlisted candidates will be invited to sit for a written test.
Conditions of Service
A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered. Initial appointment will be on a fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract. Re-engagement thereafter is subject to mutual agreement.
