Assistant Librarian (Scholarly Communication)

Duties

Reporting to the Senior Assistant Librarian (Scholarly Communication) of the Academic Support Division, the appointee will be responsible for advocating and implementing library services related to open scholarship, open access, and open data.  

The appointee will be required to:

(a) support the mandatory deposition of final accepted manuscripts of PolyU publications into the PolyU Institutional Research Archive and other Open Access initiatives;  

(b) advise and support faculty and research students on research output dissemination and preservation, enhancing research impact, and using bibliographical citation management tools;

(c) create online guides, interactive content, instruction videos, and innovative services to enhance open access services;  

(d) provide in-depth instructional and consultation services for students and academic staff on finding, using and managing information effectively and open scholarship;  

(e) serve as the Faculty Librarian of the assigned Faculty/School to ensure Library resources and services meet their learning, teaching and research needs;  

(f) support the collection development of print and online resources; and

(g) perform any other duties as assigned by the University Librarian or her delegates.  

Qualifications

Applicants should have:

(a) a recognised degree with a postgraduate qualification in Library Science or Information Science, along with significant post-qualification experience in an academic library setting;

(b) substantial experience, including at least eight years of supervisory experience in library instruction, reference services, information literacy, database searching, bibliographic management tools, and new forms of scholarly communication;  

(c) good knowledge and experience in open scholarship, open access, and open data; and

(d) excellent instructional, presentation, communication and customer service skills.  

Conditions of Service

A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered.  Initial appointment will be on a fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract.  Re-engagement thereafter is subject to mutual agreement.
