Postdoctoral Fellow

[Appointment period: twenty-four months initially, with possibility of further appointment]

Duties

The appointee will assist the project leader in the research project - “A systematic evaluation of task-based language teaching in Hong Kong secondary schools: Status quo, research-based implementation, effectiveness, individual differences, and generative AI”. He/She will be required to:

(a)    conduct independent and collaborative research in second language acquisition and task-based language teaching; 

(b)    design and implement experimental studies; 

(c)    prepare and publish high-quality research articles in peer-reviewed journals with staff members of the University;

(d)    present research findings at national and international conferences;

(e)    mentor and supervise graduate and undergraduate students;

(f)    contribute to grant writing and funding applications;

(g)    participate in departmental activities and collaborate with faculty members; and

(h)    perform any other duties as assigned by the project leader.

Qualifications

Applicants should have:

(a)    a PhD degree in Applied Linguistics, Second Language Acquisition, Psycholinguistics or a related discipline, or an equivalent qualification and must have no more than five years of post-qualification experience at the time of application;

(b)    strong background in SLA theories and methodologies;

(c)    proficiency in quantitative and qualitative research methods;

(d)    demonstrated ability to publish in high-impact journals;

(e)    experience with experimental design and sophisticated statistical analyses; 

(f)    ability to work independently and as part of a team; 

(g)    excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; and

(h)    strong organisational and time management skills.

Preference will be given to applicants with experience in task-based language teaching and learning, individual differences in language learning, research methods, and generative AI.
