Senior Teaching Fellow in Biostatistics and Research Methods

Established in 1977, the School of Nursing supports the mission of the University by nurturing graduates who are critical thinkers, effective communicators, innovative problem solvers, lifelong learners and ethical leaders.  It ranks 31st for the best School of Nursing internationally (QS Ranking 2024).  The education, research, consultancy and integrative health services are driven by a commitment to improve health of the community.  Currently, it has a total of around 80 full-time faculty members.  We have a vacancy for an experienced Biostatistician with experience in clinical trial design to join this dynamic and leading School of Nursing in Asia.

Duties 

The appointee will be required to: 

(a)    provide quality teaching at undergraduate or postgraduate level in relation to statistics and research methods;

(b)    provide statistical advice to academic staff to support their research activities including grant submissions and data management and analysis;

(c)    contribute to research that leads to publications in refereed journals and award of research grants;

(d)    engage in applied research, creative development and consultancy projects in relation to health care related activities;

(e)    contribute to departmental service;

(f)    perform any other duties as assigned by the Head of School or his/her delegates.

Qualifications 

Applicants should: 

(a)    have a PhD degree in Biostatistics or a related discipline plus not less than six years of post-qualification tertiary teaching experience and/or relevant professional, practical, or industrial experience; 

(b)    have demonstrated a high level of proficiency in teaching, and have shown potential for making substantial contributions in curriculum and pedagogy development as well as subject and programme management (and professional service if applicable); experience in promoting teaching quality will be an advantage;

(c)    have demonstrated promise of a high level of creative ability in research and teaching in some subdivisions of his/her field;

(d)    be able to demonstrate effective classroom teaching skills; and

(e)    be highly proficient in written and spoken English.

Conditions of Service

A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered.  Initial appointment will be on a fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract.  Re-engagement thereafter is subject to mutual agreement.
