Technical Officer / Assistant Technical Officer

Duties

The appointee will be required to:

(a)    prepare and assist in conducting computer laboratory classes and training courses such as bloomberg and other software platforms;

(b)    provide maintenance and development of the departmental web pages; 

(c)    assist research activities in terms of High Performance Computer (HPC) maintenance, software installation and system patching;

(d)    provide support for e-learning activities, research and teaching projects; 

(e)    assist in consultancy and other related activities conducted in the computer laboratories; 

(f)    take charge in operations and management of the facilities in the Unit; and

(g)    perform any other duties as assigned by the Head of the Unit or his delegates.

The appointee will be required to work on shift.

Qualifications

Applicants should:

(a)    possess a recognised degree in Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, Mathematics, Statistics, Computing or equivalent qualifications;

(b)    have at least five years of post-qualification relevant work experience;

(c)    be familiar with mathematical and statistical software packages; and

(d)    have demonstrated ability in the administration of computer laboratories.

Preference will be given to those (i) with experience in Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer + Internet, Linux System Administration or Red Hat Certified Engineer; and (ii) who are familiar with computer systems, management and installation of Network and Internet, and wireless networking.

Applicants with less experience may be considered for the post of Assistant Technical Officer.

Conditions of Service 

A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered.  Initial appointment will be on a fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract.  Re-engagement thereafter is subject to mutual agreement.
