Senior Manager / Manager (Intellectual Property Management) (two posts)

Duties

The appointees will be required to:

(a) develop and execute appropriate Intellectual Property (IP) management for harvesting of value  and protection of IP;

(b) collaborate with inventors and determine the scope and lead the delivery of the required IP due diligence in relation to invention disclosures from academic staff;

(c) conduct patent search, prepare patent applications, and give professional response to the Office for actions;

(d) prepare written evidence-based recommendations on the potential commercialisation opportunity or alleged IP infringement based upon due diligence;

(e) work closely with external stakeholders such as patent attorneys, funders and external consultants to advise the IP strategies for problem solving and decision making;

(f) establish and maintain productive relationships with the University’s academic and research community to stimulate awareness of IP issues through a variety of communication channels;

(g) manage the IP system for database management, and other IP related matters; and

(h) perform any other duties as assigned by the Director of Knowledge Transfer and Entrepreneurship or his/her delegates.

Qualifications

Applicants should:

(a) have a recognised degree in a relevant area of Intellectual Property, Law, Science, Life Science, Biomedical Science, Engineering or a discipline with relevant subjects;

(b) have at least eight years of solid professional and relevant experience at supervisory level;

(c) have sound experience in IP matters related to research and technology transfer, including negotiation and management of technology licence agreements;

(d) be highly motivated, result-oriented, and able to work under pressure;

(e) have a good command of both written and spoken English and Chinese (Cantonese and Putonghua); and

(f) possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to sit for a written test.  Applicants with less experience will be considered for the posts of Manager.

Conditions of Service

A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered.  Initial appointment will be on a fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract.  Re-engagement thereafter is subject to mutual agreement.
