[Appointment period: each for six to twelve months initially, with possibility of further appointment] 

Duties 

The appointees will assist the project leader in the research project - “Towards developing AI tools in speech therapy: Building training data for Automatic Speech Recognition systems to support the identification of Developmental Language Disorder in Cantonese-speaking children”. They will be required to: 

(a)    support studies investigating language processing in Cantonese-speaking children with normal and atypical language development (i.e. Developmental Language Disorder);

(b)    experimental tasks and assessments such as statistical learning tasks, nonword repetition tasks, phonological processing tasks, phonological working memory tasks, narrative comprehension and production tasks, sentence repetition tasks, hearing screening, and non-verbal IQ test;

(c)    recruit participants; 

(d)    assist in data collection, transcription, and data coding/annotation and analysis; 

(e)    co-supervise student assistants in data collection and management tasks; and

(f)    perform any other duties as assigned by the project leader or his/her delegates.

Qualifications

Applicants should: 

(a)    have an honours degree in Linguistics, Speech Therapy, Psychology or a related discipline and preferably a master’s degree with a solid background in Language Acquisition and Psycholinguistics;

(b)    be a native or near-native speaker of Cantonese; and

(c)    ideally desire to pursue further study (PhD or MA/Master of Speech Therapy) and would like to accrue some related research experience before starting her/his further study.

Preference will be given to those with experience in administering experimental studies to pre-school and school-aged children.

Conditions of Service

For full-time appointment, a highly competitive remuneration package will be offered.  

For part-time appointment, the remuneration rate is HK$122 per hour.
