Technical Officer / Assistant Technical Officer

Duties

The appointee will be required to:

(a)    oversee the daily operations and maintenance of IT facilities and equipment, as well as Cloud server systems;

(b)    manage network infrastructure, computer systems and web applications, including maintenance of online database, security control and access control;

(c)    provide day-to-day desktop and end-user IT support and troubleshooting services on assigned software, hardware and audio-visual systems; 

(d)    carry out technical assistance and field support to meetings, seminars and activities, such as video conferencing and live video streaming;

(e)    assist in keeping an updated record of various IT-related inventory items and handle the disposal of such IT-related inventory items;

(f)    maintain close communication and collaboration with internal units, particularly with the Information Technology Services Office; 

(g)    liaise with external vendors on related matters; and

(h)    perform any other duties as assigned by the Head of Unit or his delegates.

Qualifications 

Applicants should: 

(a)    have a recognised degree with five or more years of relevant experience OR a recognised certificate or diploma with eight or more years of relevant experience;

(b)    have solid working experience in supporting PC software and hardware, networking technologies, server administration and audio-visual equipment;

(c)    have a good command of common desktop applications and high proficiency in various operating systems, such as Linux, Windows, Windows Server, Mac OS, etc.;

(d)    have basic knowledge of HTML, PHP, CSS, JavaScript, OBS and vMix;

(e)    have a good command of both written and spoken English and Chinese;

(f)    be able to work independently and under pressure in providing consultation to staff and students on the use of network, PCs and audio-visual related equipment;

(g)    have good communication and presentation skills; and

(h)    have good analytical and problem-solving skills as well as team spirit. 

Preference will be given to those with knowledge of eLearning platforms and experience in supporting online teaching and learning in an educational environment.

Applicants with less experience may be considered for the post of Assistant Technical Officer.

Conditions of Service

A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered.  Initial appointment will be on a fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract.  Re-engagement thereafter is subject to mutual agreement.
